In 1961 New York City, during the height of the Cold War, Dag Hammarskjöld, a captivating diplomat and economist, has reached the zenith of his influence as the United Nations Secretary-General, now in his seventh year. Following the wave of decolonization, he dedicates himself to fostering peace in African nations, countering the ambitions of powerful business figures and global leaders who seek to exploit the continent’s resources. His world is shaken when his old friend Peter arrives in New York, prompting Dag to reflect on the personal sacrifices he has made for his career and ideals. As UN peacekeepers fall in combat in the Congo, Dag sees no choice but to enforce peace through new strategies, leading the UN forces on their inaugural combat mission.
