Freedom
Two men, living a century apart, are connected by their quest for liberation. In 1856, Samuel Woodward, a slave, escapes with his family from the Monroe Plantation near Richmond, Virginia. They are aided by the Underground Railroad, a clandestine network of everyday people, as they make their way north to Canada. However, they are relentlessly chased by the infamous slave hunter, Plimpton. As he is pursued and tormented by the unimaginable suffering he and his ancestors have faced, Samuel must choose between seeking vengeance or achieving freedom. A century earlier, in 1748, John Newton, the captain of a slave ship, sails from Africa with a human cargo destined for America. Among the captives is Samuel’s great-grandfather, whose fate is intertwined with Captain Newton’s. This journey profoundly impacts Newton, leading him to create a legacy that will inspire Samuel and countless others for generations.
