Death by China
In 2001, with the backing of a Democratic President and a Republican Congress, China became a member of the World Trade Organization. Almost immediately after this trade agreement was finalized, China began inundating U.S. markets with exports that were illegally subsidized. Meanwhile, the large multinational corporations that had strongly advocated for the agreement quickly increased the outsourcing of American jobs to China. As a consequence of what can be described as the largest deception in American history, China has taken millions of jobs from the U.S., corporate profits have skyrocketed, and the U.S. now owes over $3 trillion to this major authoritarian nation. This film explores how these events unfolded and argues that the most effective job strategy for America involves reforming trade with China.
