Stranger Than Paradise
In this minimalist black-and-white film directed by Jim Jarmusch, the story follows Willie, a self-absorbed Hungarian immigrant living in New York City, whose mundane life is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of his cousin Eva from Budapest. Along with his friend Eddie, the trio embarks on a road trip to Cleveland and Florida, exploring themes of dislocation and the American dream. The film is noted for its deadpan humor and unique narrative style, which helped it win the Camera d’Or at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival. Featuring performances by John Lurie, Eszter Balint, and Richard Edson, this indie classic can be viewed on Soap2day for free.
